The Musical Society of Nigeria, MUSON, has concluded plans on its Muson Festival 2010 which has been billed to kick off with a Brazilian Samba. The programme according to the chairman of the occasion, Bashorun J.K Randle is in collaboration with the Brazilian Consulate General bringing in eight multi-talented Brazilian musicians and samba dancers who would thrill the audience. 

He noted that the festival proper would take off in October 25 with the centre joining other Nigerians to celebrate Nigeria at 50 adding that the festival will come to end with the Choral concert in November 7, 2010.

According to him, this year’s festival would roll out music of yesteryears starting with a reading of an excerpt written by the late Alhaji Babatunde Jose on 1st October 1960. And will be followed by the reading with a drama sketch and then the MUSON Symphony Orchestra and Voices from the MUSON School of Music will render the British National Anthem, old Nigerian National Anthem, Colonel Bogey, “Dodo ati Rice”, an Ayo Bankole’s composition and then current National Anthem.

Speaking on the uniqueness of this year’s festival, the chairman explained that it is organised in such a way that it represents the Nigerian style and that it will feature all kinds of indigenous Nigerian music different from what the festival has been known for in the past.

“My “Kind of Music” will this year feature 4 personalities, women and men of accomplishment as they give uncommon glimpse of lesser known sides of their persona on the centre-stage to speak to and enjoy a live audience, digital recordings of some of their favourites music”, he added. 

While the stage play is “Home Sweet Home” revolves around the true-life story of six  friends who share some things in common. They will share their sad, sweet memories as they meet come together after many years of leaving the University of Ife, Osun State. 

“At this year’s festival, MUSON is proud to present the best of Nigerian artistes, old and

young to celebrate our 50 years of independence. Adding that, the festival will come to an end with a Choral concert where the good works of some Nigerian composers will be acknowledged including Ayo Bankole Snr., Sammy Akpabot, Adam Fiberesima and Laz Ekwueme”, he concluded.
