Jonathan does not interfere in the running of FCT — Minister

By Henry UMORU, Abuja
MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Senator Bala Mohammed said yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan does not interfere in the governance of the nation’ capital city, just as he urged Nigerians to support him in all its ramifications.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja on his investiture as the National Patron of the Goodluck Jonathan Pro-Poor Project, Senator Mohammed stressed the need for Nigerians to join hands with President Goodluck Jonathan to enable him realize the aspirations of Yar’Adua/Goodluck 2007 ticket and move the country forward, adding that Nigerians must also pray for the President because he was answering a divine call which has placed the mantle of leadership of this country on his shoulder.

The Minister who described President Jonathan as a detribalized Nigerian, however appealed to Nigerians to allow him complete the good works started by the duo in order to propel the nation to the next level.

Meanwhile, the Minister who was elected on the platform of the All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP in 2007 to represent Bauchi South in the Senate will formally dump the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Monday in his home state, Bauchi.

It would be recalled that the Minister who served as Senior Special Assistant to the Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda from 2000 to 2005, but he fell out with Yaguda after the state Governor married late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s daughter and decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and in March 2010, he accused Yuguda of being behind a move by the people in his constituency to recall him from the Senate.

Since then, all has not been well between them and there were stories that they both avoided each other except recently when the death of the emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu ‘reconciled’ them.

With the Minister joining the PDP on Monday, the political battle line will be drawn between him and the governor especially ahead of the primaries and against the backdrop that Senator Bala Mohammed is interested in fighting it out with his mentor for the Bauchi governorship tussle come 2011.

Also recall that Senator Bala Mohammed who became the FCTA Minister courtesy of President Goodluck Jonathan April 6, 2010, was  the first to call for the declaration of  late President Umaru Yar’Adua  incapacitated and making the then Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan the acting President.

The move to join the PDP is to enable him belong to the same camp with Presuident Jonathan, work with him, for him, as well as assist in all endeavours.
