BENIN CITY — THE Warri Ijaw Peace Monitoring Group, WIPMG, has hailed the endorsement of Mr. Paul Bebenimibo as the House of Assembly candidate for Warri South West Constituency of Delta State, by the Gbaramatu Political Elite Forum.

The group recalled the achievements of Mr. Bebenimibo in ensuring peace in the Niger Delta during the militancy days  and stressed the need for such people, who had toiled for the common man in the Niger Delta to be given such additional responsibility.

In a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr. Ebifibe Opuwei, the group stressed the need for Niger Deltans to elect genuine activists and not politicians, who will abandon the cause of their people after receiving gratification.

According to him,  “we have discovered that some of our lawmakers today, have been conniving with oil companies to deprive our people of their right after they must have collected money. That is why we are insisting that in 2011 elections, we will elect activists,  who will fight our cause.

“He has contributed immensely to the sustenance of peace in the Niger Delta and it is our strong belief that he will use his wealth of experience to ensure that the people of Warri South West constituency get better representation in the House,” the group added.

Yes it is true that we have peace now but we need people who can sincerely talk to the oil companies operating in our areas, so that they can contribute their quota to the development of our area, government cannot do it all,” he added.
