LAGOS—In an apparent preparedness towards the 2011 general election,  the Inspector General of Police has deployed Police anti-bomb squad to join its anti-terrorism counterpart at all sea ports across the country to checkmate importation of explosives into the country.

Highlighting the functions of the personnel during a sensitization workshop in Lagos, Commissioner of Police in-charge of PPA, Mr Hilary Okpara, said it would include checkmating all goods coming into the country through sea ports and land boarders .

This he said, would ensure cargoes did not contain bombs, explosives or their components that could be used to destabilize the country.

Said he, “ the recent drafting of personnel of anti-terrorism and anti-bomb squads by the Federal Government through the Inspector-general of Police is an eloquent testimony that the security of cargo and all stakeholders that operate in the ports is not being handled with kids gloves.”

The personnel he informed, had been given special training within and outside the country and could therefore, boast of modern equipment and gadgets that could be used to detect explosives and their components within five minutes of examination of cargo.
