WARRI — THE Izon Ebido-Otu of Niger Delta, IEND, a political pressure group, has warned the Federal and Delta State Governments to be wary of political jobbers and godfathers, who want to impose candidates on the electorates, saying it was an invitation to anarchy.

The group in a statement by Chief Sunday Oruware, Chairman; Chief Tuwei Koriedegha, Vice Chairman and Chief Evans Etimigba, Secretary, at a meeting in Warri, commended the Federal, Delta State governments and South–South leader, Chief Edwin  Clark for their roles in peace building, especially in the post amnesty programme.

They said, “as the 2011 elections draw near, we plead that during primaries election, there should be no godfatherism nor favouritism in electing people to represent us. We want trustworthy and capable people to represent us in order to maintain peace and development in the region and especially, Delta State.”

IEND  urged the Federal Government not to derail from the amnesty programme, adding  that it has been the fulcrum of the sustained peace in the region. It advised that the trained former militants be given employment so that their re-integration would be complete.

They stressed that Nigeria will have a credible election if the electorate are allowed to determine who will rule them, warning that any imposition will be meet with stiff resistance as the electorate are more informed now than ever.
