The Movement for Justice and Fairness Coalition, MJFC, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged misappropriation of N216.2 million by the Chairman, Bomadi Local Government Area of  Delta State, Mr. Kelly Penawou.
A statement by Mr. Seifegha Peter and Bekesuoyeibo Joseph, MJFC President and Secretary, respectively, called on EFCC to investigate the involvement of the council boss in the alleged financial crimes and ensure that he is brought to book if found guilty.

MJFC alleged that, Penawou defrauded the council to the tune of N124 million in the rehabilitation of Bomadi Township Road and two major access roads, Funtare and Stow Streets.

The group further alleged that the Funtare and Stow Streets  were not rehabilitated but certificate of completion were raised, a pointer to the fact that the funds were diverted.

Continuing, the group said, “the Chairman also defrauded the council to the tune of N33 million for an alleged purchase of six official vehicles with the aid  of a bank in Ughelli. Till date, we have not seen the vehicles.”

“The Bomadi Council Boss fraudulently awarded frivolous contracts using Direct Labour, for the clearing of Kpakiama Abo Fishing Lake , Okodo Lake , Ofenitenbou Fishing Lake Ogodobiri to the sum of N16 million, while the N15 million water rehabilitation scheme at Bomadi which he claimed to have been completed, was not functional.

“Penawou misappropriated the sum of N4.2 million in the name of a football competition at Bomadi which was named after his younger brother, but he claimed the council organised the game in conjunction with his brother.
