Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mr Parry Osayande, has charged the newly instituted Police Recruitment Board, PRB, to deliver adequate recruitment exercise for the Police Force, with a view to setting standard in transparency in the conduct of national affairs.

Osayande who gave the charge while inaugurating the Board, said similar exercise in the past had been vitiated by corrupt practices which he attributed to the recruitment of ‘unqualified, sub- standard and dregs of the society into the police force’.

PRB he said, “ is empaneled by the Police Service Commission in an effort at conducting a transparent exercise into the Nigeria Police Force that would meet the dictates of due process and best practices as being preached by the present administration.”

The Board which is made up of representatives of the Commission , the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Character Commission, is expected to among other, work out the criteria and processes of recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force.

Other terms of reference of the board are; to organise recruitment of able-bodied men and women into the Nigeria Police Force; to stipulate the time frame for the conduct of recruitment exercises and training of successful candidates and to institute and implement mechanisms aimed at preventing the abuse of the recruitment process .

The board  headed by Dr Otive Igbuzor , a Commissioner in the Police Service Commission, according to Osanyande, “ is bent on getting the right type of candidates for the Force so as to put in place once and for all a Police force that shall meet with the challenges of policing Nigeria in the 21st century and beyond.
