ABUJA—The Federal Government has stopped Lagos lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo from further prosecuting a businessman, Chief Kenny Martins and three others over a criminal breach of trust.
Martins is standing trial before a Federal high court sitting in Abuja on a four- count charge of breaching a loan agreement it entered into with an American company, Cavalry Security Group, totalling $97,500,000 million.
Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Mike Kaase Andoakaa, SAN, had issued a fiat to Keyamo to prosecute Kenny Martins and his alleged accomplices.
The matter had dragged for some times in court with no progress recorded following complaint by Kenny Martins against Keyamo to the effect that Keyamo was the one behind the accusation against him and the one prosecuting him.
The new Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Mohammed Adoke, SAN, had however withdrawn the earlier fiat issued to Keyamo to prosecute the businessman. The fiat was issued to Keyamo two years ago.
Keyamo himself had filed a notice of withdrawal of legal representation at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court in Abuja to terminate his bid to put Kenny Martins on trial.
In the notice of withdrawal Keyamo said he and his chambers were no longer counsel to the Federal Government in the case based on the strength of withdrawal of fiat in their possession.
The withdrawal notice dated July 26, and filed on July 27 was signed by one Oghenovo Otemu of Festus Keyamo chambers on behalf of his principal partner.
The notice of withdrawal was served on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN.
Lead Counsel to Chief Kenny Martins, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, was also served with the notice at his chamber.
