ENUGU— THE senatorial ambition of Mrs. Dorathy Nwodo, wife of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, is said to be causing some ripples within the Nwodo family of Enugu State, with majority of the immediate family members opposing her decision to seek elective political office.

Besides, Mrs. Nwodo’s ambition to represent Enugu North Senatorial district, which she announced at a meeting held at their GRA residence in Enugu on Tuesday, is already unsettling some PDP loyalists in the state who described the move as the first major test to the internal democracy being preached by her spouse, Dr. Nwodo, who became the PDP National Chairman barely two months ago.

The PDP Chairman’s wife, Vanguard learnt, had told the women to show more commitment in elective political positions available in the state in the coming election, pointing that she was interested in the position of Enugu North Senatorial Constituency now being occupied by Senator Ayogu Eze.

Although the women present at the meeting were said to have received the information with mixed feelings,  members of Nwodo family present felt slighted that they were not consulted before  she announced her senatorial ambition.

Sources at the meeting disclosed that the announcement did not go down well with the gathering, as majority of them felt it was improper for the family to produce another political aspirant in the next dispensation after Mrs. Nwodo’s younger brother and Chairman of Enugu State Fertilizer Distribution Company, Mr. Ogbonna Asogwa. had declared his intention to contest Nsukka/Igbo Eze South Federal Constituency seat.
