The Palace of the Orodje of Okpe,   His Royal Majesty, Orhue 1, has disclaimed a news report credited to the President General of Okpe Union, that the Okpe people are not part of the Urhobo Nation. The release affirmed that it was only the Udogun -Okpe, that has the authority to comment on such matters.
In the statement signed by the Otota-Okpe, Chief (Hon. Justice) D.E. Uwerhiavwe (rtd), on behalf of the Udogun-Okpe, the Supreme Council of the Okpe kingdom stated “the attention of His Royal Majesty, the Orodje of Okpe has been drawn to a publication in the Vanguard of Tuesday, July 27, 2010 credited to the President General of Okpe Union that Okpe people are not part of the Urhobo Nation.
“I wish to state unequivocally that the views/opinion expressed in the said publication are not that of people of Okpe Kingdom. The only body that is competent to speak on such issues on behalf of the Okpe people is Udogun-Okpe (Supreme Council). The general public†the statement added “is hereby advised to disregard the said publication.
