BENIN—Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Alhaji Kabiru Adjoto, yesterday,  gave reasons why Mr. Godwin Adenomo, who  the Supreme Court last week declared the authentic lawmaker representing Ovia South West constituency of Edo State in the state House of Assembly, after sacking Mr Sunday Aghedo, was yet to be sworn in as a lawmaker.

He explained that the House was yet to receive the court judgment to enable it effect the swearing-in.

It will be recalled that Adenomo had gone to the court after he believed that he was the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the April 11, 2015 House of Assembly election but his name was substituted with that of Aghedo.

Following the Supreme Court ruling which also ordered the sacked Aghedo to return the salaries he collected for the period to Mr Adenomo, Speaker Adjoto said: “We are only waiting for the court papers to swear in the House of Assembly member. There is no problem at all just that the procedures have to be followed. Nobody can disobey the ruling of the Supreme Court. We will do as directed by the court.”

Meantime, the Speaker has announced the re-composition of the Principal Officers of the House.

Mr Sunday Osazenwingie, representing Ovia North East constituency 1, is now Deputy Leader of the House while the member representing Egor constituency, Crosby Eribo, was co-opted into the Principal Officers Council.
