Centrica boosts fight against HIV &AIDS

Centrica Energy, global integrated energy company, recently held a citizenry education and community awareness campaign onHIV & AIDS in Ewang community of Akwa Ibom State.

The campaign, held in conjunction with the World Health Organisation educated  participants on various aspects of the disease including transmission, caring for  PLWHA and  stigmatisation and discrimination against PLWHA.

Mr. Stuart Connal, MD, Centrica Resources Nigeria, said “HIV & AIDS is one of the greatest killer diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. We therefore see this initiative as our humble contribution to the fight against this global pandemic.

“We hope this programme will assist the community, especially the youths, appreciate the possibility of a generation without HIV & AIDS through the avoidance of lifestyles and habits that render them prone to the disease”.

Connal said the programme is in tandem with the National Strategic Framework on AIDS which is aimed at providing access to quality care and support services to at least 50 per cent of people living with the disease by 2015”.

He counseled the people of Ewang community to avail themselves of the various programmes of government and other corporate bodies in knowing their HIV status as a first step towards showing that they are HIV-aware. He also called on the PLWHAs to access quality healthcare and support to ensure that they live fruitful and quality life.
