Farewell: Agatha Osakwe returns to her maker

Late Agatha Osakwe

By Emma Fejokwu

The saying that death is an inevitable end became a reality on Wednesday 18th October 2017, as the day will ever remain indelible in our minds and in particular, in the minds of the husband, children, brothers, mother and in the lives of all those who had an encounter with this great jewel and quintessential daughter of Udeh’s family of Idumu-Omu quarters, Onitcha-Ugbo Agatha Ndidi Osakwe (nee Udeh), and family of her husband, Dr. Osadebe Osakwe, from Umuolo quarters also in Onitcha-Ugbo, Aniocha north local government area of Delta State. Though Agatha died and went to meet her maker at a very young age, her memories will continue to linger for a very long time as a result of her numerous contributions both to the Christendom, humanity and that of her entire household.

The late Agatha was born 47 years ago to the family of late Mr. Stephen Okwunodu Udeh of Idumu-Omu quarters, Onitcha-Ugbo and Mrs Regina Ego-Ofu Udeh (nee Isichei) of Idumu-Ubulu quarter, Onitcha-Ugbo. She was the youngest and the only female child of the family.

Late Agatha Osakwe

She attended Mary Mount College, Agbor and thereafter proceeded to the University of Ibudan for her degree programme. On completion of the programme, she gained employment with the Stanbic IBTC Bank after completion of the National Youth Service Corps scheme in 1996.

It is note worthy to mention that Agatha had a flourishing career in the bank for nearly two decades and attended several courses locally and abroad. She rose to become a manager.

Mrs. Agatha Ndidi Osakwe was a catechist in the family parish church of the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Lekki, Lagos, where she taught catechism and showed exemplary love to children, as well as played very active role in the Parents Teachers Association (P.T.A) of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja. A gem who was a great lover of her husband, lovely children and members of the extended families, that no sacrifice was too much for her to make to ensure their happiness. She was an example worthy of emulation in her devotion to the family, the church, her friends and close associates.

Like some of the tributes made in her honour, the late Mrs. Osakwe was a mother to her husband, Dr. Osadebe Osakwe and the children, whom she showed love as she never wanted anything to touch them. A complete woman, late Mrs. Osakwe exhibited qualities of a good house wife and mother, hence in her short but eventful life on earth, all who in one way or the other came across her, called her without mincing words, a woman of virtue.

Late Mrs. Agatha Ndidi Osakwe can also be described as a woman with the midas touch as during her life time she proved beyond reasonable doubt that she was not only brought up from a well groomed family but also a dependable woman that one can be proud of. A hard working, intelligent and distinguished personality who knew and exhibited her activities perfectly at her work place, home and every where she was engaged, remained till death a woman anybody would not regret to have met.

The multitude of sympathizers who came from far and near to bid her final farewell both at the vigil mass held at her Umuolo country home, Onitcha-Ugbo and a catalog of Catholic priests who came to pay their last respect to this great woman, the late Mrs. Osakwe, was a testimony of her amiable personality.

In a brief chat with the bereaved husband, Dr. Osadebe Osakwe, by this writer, he described his late wife as a symbol of every good thing of life, a hard working, dependable and loving mother of her children and himself. He stated that he will definitely miss her.
