Sambo urges Govs to support Jonathan

ABUJA— VICE President, Namadi Sambo, has called for more support and co-operation from state governors to enable the present government under President Goodluck Jonathan succeed.

Sambo said both the Federal and state governments must cooperate in order to realise their collective and overall development of the country.

He said, “it has been our ambition to bring change, and definitely I know every state governor is putting all efforts to ensure that we achieve this noble objective.”

The Vice President made the call when he hosted the 36 State Governors to a dinner in his official residence, Aguda House.

He said the dinner is in appreciation of the comradeship and brotherhood all the governors extended to him during his nomination and subsequent appointment to the exalted office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “I really, have no words to express my feelings,” he enthused.

Vice President Sambo, expressed happiness on the unalloyed support the administration is receiving from all the state governors irrespective of party affiliation.

He said, “for the first time, we have this position where the governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in disregard of any party lines, have agreed to come together to unify ourselves to have a common goal to move Nigeria forward.”

He therefore, stressed that gone are the days where party affiliation affected Federal Government projects in some states, insisting that this positive development was brought about by our advancement in democracy.

Sambo assured the governors that he will be their worthy ambassador, adding that he is fully aware that the leadership at the various levels of government are patriotic and committed to the development of Nigeria.

“I can confess anywhere, we have the people of Nigeria in our minds, and we will continue to do everything to see that we transform this country to greater heights”, he declared.

The Vice President also re-echoed the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan to deliver all the promises he made to Nigerians, especially his vow to improve the power supply situation in country, he therefore disclosed that to this end, President Jonathan has directed that the Federal Government should as a matter of priority, support all states that have plans to set up power plants in their respective states.

Sambo used the occasion to enjoin the governors to take advantage of the various avenues available for cooperation and partnership with the Federal Government, such as the National Economic Council and the committee on infrastructural development both of which he is chairing.
