IBADAN—EFFORTS by the Oyo State Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala to have audience with the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana over an undisclosed issue were botched as the latter reportedly snubbed him.

According to an impeccable source, Governor Alao-Akala had paid an unscheduled visit to the monarch presumably over his 2011 governorship ambition.

Vanguard gathered that the governor was coming from Ogbomoso, his hometown when he decided to pay a visit to the king in his  Monatan Palace, Ibadan.

Information gathered revealed that the governor had sat down for more than 45 minutes with his entourage waiting for Olubadan to have audience with him.

When the message was conveyed to the monarch that the governor wanted to see him, he was said to have sent back to him that he was not accustomed to receiving visitors on Sunday.

In addition, the monarch reportedly said no appointment was booked with him that the governor was coming to see him.

All entreaties by the governor to persuade the monarch to have audience with him failed and the governor had to leave the palace.

Since assumption of office of the monarch, the relationship between the duo has not been too cordial and they try as a much as possible to avoid each other like a leper.

At any opportunity each of the two parties takes his own pound of flesh. Recently, President Goodluck Jonathan visited the state but failed to pay homage to the monarch as was the custom in states where the president had visited.

The indigenes of the city including the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes frowned at the attitude, describing it as desecration of traditional institution in the city.

This and many other cold wars that have been going on, the source noted, must have prompted the monarch to have remained aloof from the governor
