Former Shooting Stars Sports Club coach Adegboye Onigbinde is not a happy man. His state of mind emanates from the structure of the Nigeria Premier League which he said was poorly managed.
According to him, the league would have grown stronger if the administrative heads developed players from the grassroots to replace old players . He said if they (NFA) had adhered to his advice in developing a junior team after their senior teams, it would not have been difficult to put together a solid team.
“As far as I am concerned we do not have a league in this country. We are just joking. In 1983 I recommended to the NFA that each club in division one should have a Junior team and develop them for future purposes this will enable them produce young talents to replace the old ones. It was entrenched in the rules but no body followed the rules until now.
That was when our problem started. I also adviced that every club should have a technical department that will produce or develop talents. But the problem I had then was that one of the club proprietors turned me down.
He said they don’t have the money to run the senior team I am talking of, not to talk of developing a junior team for each club.
I told them then that their decision was penny wise pounce foolish.
