UYO — Three sus-pected kidnappers have been killed and their victim, Akpan Timothy Akpan, rescued by Police operatives, who raided their camp at Minya Ntak village in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Walter Rugbere, told newsmen that following a tip-off, the men of his Command swooped on the hoodlums and killed three of the eight-member gang during a gun battle, recovering four AK 47 riffles with more than 145 rounds of ammunition, a black Mercedes Benz 190 with registration No. AG 649 KET, and some charms.
The gang, the Commissioner said, is suspected to be the brain behind series of kidnappings in the state and that investigations are on for the arrest of other members of the gang.
The Police, Rugbere also revealed, had arrested another gang of kidnappers at Ekpene Obo village in Esit Eket Local Government Area, alleged to have kidnapped one Mercy Akpan, who was later rescued by his men.
The Police equally arrested one Dr. John Offiong and a woman, Mrs. Affiong Etuk, for stealing a two- month-old baby boy, adding that the suspects confessed to buying the baby for N300,000 from one Emma Etuk.
