Gunmen raid LG secretariat

By Emma Arubi
WARRI—UNKNOWN gunmen Wednesday,  stormed the new Secretariat complex of the Warri South-West Local Government Area, in Ogbe-Ijoh, Delta State, breaking into the treasury and carting away an undisclosed amount of money.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the day, was said to have shocked the council boss,  who promised to get all those involved to pay for the dastardly act.

The heavily armed gunmen succeeded in breaking through the security doors of the cash and general accounts offices in the new secretariat complex, barely two weeks after the workers moved into it from their temporary office at Ogbe-Ijoh Primary School building, from where they had operated for over 13 years.

Though details were still sketchy, Vanguard, however, learnt that one of the security guard simply identified as Lucky was still being held by the police at Ogbe-Ijoh police station,  after the treasurer and cashier had reportedly made statements at the station. It was gathered that no reasonable cash was in the treasury as it was not payment time for any category of staff or contractors.

Police sources confirmed the incident and arrest of Lucky, saying that investigation is currently on to get the hoodlums, even as the Council boss, Mr George Ekpemukpolor decline to comment on the incident.
