MEND ex-generals apologize to Alaibe

By Emma Amaize
WARRI— A GROUP of ex-generals of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger-Delta (MEND) , yesterday, apologized to the Coordinator of the Post-Amnesty Programme, Chief Timi Alaibe for the unruly behavior, last week,  of some of the boys undergoing training at Obubra in Cross Rivers State.

Spokesman of the group, Mr. Mark Anthony,  in an electronic statement to Vanguard said: “I sincerely apologize on behalf of our boys who harassed Mr. Timi Alaibe in the training camp. He should not relent in his capacity as coordinator to make the training a success.

This training does not affect agitation for fair treatment among ex-generals and a progress in the Niger Delta agitation.

Lack of manpower

“Part of the things that brought about the Niger Delta struggle is unemployment and lack of manpower among the Niger Delta youths in the oil and gas sectors in the country.

This now gave ample opportunities to people from distant parts of the world to come to our territories to hijack our oil companies’ job chances; thereby making us jobless and virtually idle.

“And you know an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Joblessness brings about poverty and hunger. Don’t forget that a hungry man is an angry man. That brought us to where we are now, roaring like wounded lions in every bit of provocation.

“We are warning those individuals or group of persons who are not ready for the rehabilitation and training exercise to simply vacate the camp to allow those who are willing to continue with their training to tap something to better their lives and families.

“The ongoing training is a plus to the Niger Delta struggle and in next few years those patiently learning something will boast of a skill.  Don’t forget, for you to gain in any learning process, you must conform yourself to every rule and regulation from the school authorities.

“They must also understand the fact that they are no longer in their various militant camps and must be ready to subject themselves to constituted authorities and teachers, no matter the age of the instructor for you to tap something meaningfully.”
