Ugbade expressed the confidence in an interview in Abuja while speaking on the expectations from the team.

He said that the Super Eagles performance in the match against Cameroon both in Nigeria and Cameroon was enough boost for the team.

“Defeating Cameroon in Nigeria 4-0 and drawing them 1-1 in Yaoundé is enough boost for the team, it shows the team is good.

“Again, such a feat is capable of putting fear in any of the teams in West Africa because everyone knows the strength of Cameroon in football,’’ Ugbade said.

The former captain turned coach urged the home-based Eagles to overcome their West African opponents for lasting glory.

He said that it was time for Nigerians to stamp their feet on the ground as giants in African football and West Africa in particular.

The team which will also feature in next year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) will slug it out with the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone on Sept. 11 in Takoradi, Ghana by 6 p.m.

Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania and Guinea are drawn in zone A.

Zone B has Senegal, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin Republic and Cape Verde.

Zone B teams are slated to play their matches in Cape Coast, a city co-hosting the competition with Takoradi.
