Group lauds Lagos House of Assembly

Advancement of Democracy, a Lagos political group, has lauded the State House of Assembly for rejecting the National Assembly’s proposal on the amendment of 1999 constitution.

The group said the State House of Assembly has once again demonstrated its legislative competency and sincerity to make laws which are people-friendly, and asked other state Houses of Assembly to emulate Lagos by scrutinising the proposed amendment sent to them and make sure that the constitutions, when amended, would serve the interest, yearnings and aspirations of the generality of the people of the country.

The president of the group, Comrade Ade Ademiloye, said “Lagos State House of Assembly has always been meticulous, careful and calculative in its activities. Once again, this has been shown in its rejection of anti-people proposed constitutional amendment sent to it by the National Assembly. Other Houses of Assembly should follow the foot step of Lagos State by looking critically at the amendment clause-by-clause.”

The House had disagreed with the amendment of certain clauses of the constitution such as the issues of cross-carpeting and disqualification of people of questionable characters in the National Assembly.

National Assembly had recommended that those who dumped the party on which platform they were elected are free to retain their seat in the chamber.
