THE process of appointing a new Deji of Akureland kicked off in Akure yesterday as the Ojijigogun Ruling House expected to nominate a candidate appointed their Chairman and Secretary.
Prince Adelusi Victor Adegoroye was appointed as Chairman of the ruling house while Prince Soladoye Aroloye was appointed Secretary.

Their appointment was sequel to a letter written to the ruling house by the Akure South LGA on the need to commence the selection process towards the appointment of a new monarch for the town.

A letter from the Council signed by Alhaji K O Busari requested the ruling house to forward names, contact addresses and the cell phone numbers of the accredited Head and Secretary of their ruling house for the purpose of ensuring a direct contact to the ruling house.

The appointment was done at a meeting of the Ojijigogun Ruling House held in Akure yesterday.

The meeting was attended by members of the Ruling House comprising the Adesida, Arosoye and Faturoti.
The letter signed by the secretary is entitled “Re: Vacant Stool of the Deji of Akure: Need to commence the selection process towards the appointment of a new Deji of Akure” was sent to the Ruling House and copied to the Regency Council headed by Mr Dele Ajayi.

It reads,  “I am directed to refer to the Ondo State Government letter, ref No CD/C5/Vol X1V/369 of June 15, 2010 on the subject matter addressed to the Akure South local government and humbly request you to forward the name, contact addresses and GSM phone number of the accredited Head and Secretary of your Ruling House respectively to the undersigned for the purpose of ensuring a direct communication to your Ruling House.”

“However, if such officers are not presently in post, you are requested as a matter of urgency to hold your Ruling House meeting for the selection/election/appointment of such officers immediately.”

This is coming as the Chairman of the Regency Council said there would not be long interregnum for the stool as that would not be in the interest of the people of the town. According to him, he would not want to stay for long time as acting Regent of the town.

A statement signed by Mr. Akinwale Osodi, Special Assistant to Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Media stated that Ajayi said at the meeting attended by 30 traditional chiefs said the inventory of the community’s assets and materials including the property of the deposed Deji had been carried out.

The Chairman of the Regency Council urged the people to be more concerned about the issues that bothered on progress and development of the town in social, political and economic spheres.
