Enyeama to lead new Eagles as team leave in bits

By Tiny Ubani, in South Africa
The Eagles would leave South Africa today to their respective destinations after being knocked out of the World Cup following the mind-boggling 2-2 draw with South Korea.

Argentina expectedly topped Group B while Nigeria and Greece kissed the dust in the first World Cup to be hosted in African soil.

As the players head in different directions with the protocol department of the Nigeria Football Association confirming their tickets, I gathered authoritatively that the Eagles would be re-organized with goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama tipped to skipper the new team.

“The team will be leaving in bits because most of the airlines are fully booked. We never expected to go out in the first round and it has compounded our problem”, an FA official said.  The official who is yet to come terms with the edging out of Eagles said that the team would be re-organized to allow ageing legs bow out.

“If there is any player who did absolutely well in the World Cup, it is the  goalkeeper. He is undoubtedly the one that will lead the new Eagles”, the official said. Enyeama shone like a thousand stars in the two matches against Argentina and Greece, winning man of the match award respectively despite the fact that the Eagles were beaten.
