ENUGU— RENOWNED pentecostal cleric and Presiding Bishop of Amazing Love Ministries, Enugu, Rev. Amaechi Nwachukwu, has advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to betray the towering confidence Nigerians have reposed in his administration, especially ahead of the 2011 general elections.

Nwachukwu, who addressed a news conference as part of activities marking the 24th anniversary of the Amazing Love Assembly in Enugu, however, expressed hope that with the president’s avowed commitment to effecting genuine electoral reform, the next general elections would come off successfully without much outcry.

He noted that with the way things were moving currently, particularly with regards to the nomination of “a renowned stickler to due process and rule of law”, Prof Attahiru Jega, as Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, there were signs that the future of the country would be brighter.

“With the way things are moving in the past few weeks, especially since Jonathan assumed the presidency, I think we might have a lot of cheer in the coming months, but that is if they would maintain the current tempo and not dash our hope as often said in the political circles.

“But from all indications, I am inclined to believe that something great is in the offing. Nigerians should not lose sleep because I see Nigeria that is greater.”

Bishop Nwachukwu also expressed dissatisfaction with the endemic nature of corruption and evil ravaging the country, calling on major stakeholders, especially church leaders, to rise to the occasion and evolve strategies that would assist in checkmating the trend.

He said the situation had continued unabated because “we underrate the endemic nature of the ugly situation”.
