THE screening of the National Chairman and Commissioners-designate of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would be conducted by the National Assembly and would be transmitted live on national television, today (Wednesday).

This is coming on the heels of the formal withdrawal of Amb. Mohammed Anka and General Bagudu Mamman, two commissioners-designate earlier nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan, because of their obvious partisanship.

Addressing Senate correspondents after a closed door session, Chairman of

the Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Ayogu Eze said the

decision to conduct the screening in the full glare of Nigerians was because of

the interests the nomination had generated.

He said: “We decided that because of the interest of Nigerians and it is a matter of such public importance, we are going to take the screening on the floor tomorrow (today) in the glare of all Nigerians. We want to do it urgently because we do not have time. And we want to give everybody the opportunity to ask questions.”

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, formally withdrew the nomination of Amb.Mohammed Anka and General Bagudu Maman as national commissioners of INEC.
