OWERRI— The Federal High Court sitting in Owerri has ordered the immediate arrest of Chief Innocent Obi over his repeated absence in the fraud suit he instituted against Nze Chikwe. Chief Obi had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alleging that Nze Chikwe duped him of N40 million and the latter was, on the strength of the allegation, arraigned in the Federal High Court, Owerri, to answer the charges levelled against him.
While Chikwe had since produced and filed all the necessary documents in respect of the matter to prove his innocence, Chief Obi consistently absented himself from court, despite repeated warnings from the court.
This compelled the Judge to issue a warrant for the immediate arrest of Chief Obi by the police.
Vanguard recalls that it was during one of the EFCC operatives’ trips to prosecute the Nze Chikwe matter in Owerri that they ran into gunmen who killed two of them and injured others.
