Toyin Adewale-Gabriel leads June Poetry workshop

The monthly creative writing workshop organised by the Abuja Writers’ Forum(AWF) continues on June 26, 2010 with Toyin Adewale-Gabriel as the facilitator. Her work has won awards from cultural institutions and she is a Fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude and has been Writer-in-Residence at the Villa Waldberta, Munich, and The Baltic Centre for Writers and Translators, in Visby, Sweden.

Adewale-Gabriel has read her work to audiences in Nigeria, South Africa, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Italy, The Netherlands, Luxemburg and the United States of America. In 1991, she founded the Women Writers of Nigeria (WRITA).

Her publications include Naked Testimonies,  Breaking The Silence, Co-editor, Inkwells, Co-Editor, Die Aromaforscherin (Edition Solitude, Stuttgart, 1998), Flackernde Kerzen, 25 New Nigerian Poets, Editor (Ishmael Reed Publishing, Berkeley, 2000).

The monthly workshop which started a year ago is currently focusing on poetry. Tanure Ojaide had kick-started the poetry series in May with an exhaustive overview.

Tricia Ada Nwaubani, author of  I Did Not Come To You By Chance which won the 2010 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book in the Africa Region, is the Guest Writer.
