Chinedu Obasi missed a glorious chance to put Nigeria ahead against Greece and explained that his legs had gone after sprinting nearly 50 metres to get to the opposition penalty box.

“It was really big chance. I had run more than 50 meters trying to get the ball and pass it. I was expecting it in the goal but then it came back.

“It happened so fast. As I gave the ball, I was a little bit tired when I released the last pass and I was jogging and then I saw it coming back at me. It was a big miss for me,” Obasi told KickOffNigeria.com.

Scores were still tied at 1-1 at the time and the goal, right after Vincent Enyeama had pulled another monster save out of his so far inexhaustible repertoire, would have changed the complexion of the game, and Obasi says he is as disappointed in himself as the fans are.

“I was really disappointed in myself because I was a little bit too confident that I was going to score, but it slipped a little bit because the pitch was a little bit slippery but then, it was still disappointing.”

With South Korea up next in a game that the Super Eagles must win to have any chance of progressing, Obasi says there is no time to dwell on what is in the past.

“As a football player I have to get over it, and that is what the team should do as well. We have an important game coming up against Korea, and we have to win that and hope that Argentina win against Greece.”
That game comes up on Tuesday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban at 19h30 Nigeria time.
