APC chairmanship aspirants in Surulere are putting aside their alleged imposition of a favoured nominee of the party leader in the area and House Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, as the vice-chairmanship candidate of the APC.
The party members led by some of the chairmanship aspirants recently took to Adelabu Street to protest the choice.
The protesters subsequently marched to the APC secretariat in the local government and smeared photographs and memorabilia associated to Gbajabiamila in the secretariat.
Speaking to journalists, the angry protesters claimed that the nominee is not a known face among those that contested for the last local government election primaries in the area. Some of the protesters promised to vote for candidates of other parties if the injustice is not redressed.

Speaking on the crisis, one of the aggrieved chairmanship aspirants, Dotun Olaribigbe, popularly called Lobito, said the impunity against Surulere people has been going on for a long time.
He said, “We would redefine Surulere politics, now is time to end all forms of impunity that have been going on for some time.”
Olaribigbe who stated that he has no particular choice of who should be picked as candidate for the position of vice-chairman in the area, insisted that the choice must be among those that contested the primaries.
Another chairmanship aspirant, Afiz Kasamu, said the people of Surulere which is a cosmopolitan local government in Lagos State are tired of imposition which has been going on in the area for a long time.
He stressed that what is happening is not part of level playing ground which is what APC stands for, adding,“We expected that the choice of candidate for the position of vice-chairman would be done without impunity by giving everybody a level playing ground.”
Chairman of the APC in Surulere was not available to speak on the issue.
