Umuahia—Abia State Government has welcomed the presence of more security operatives, especially the military, in the state, saying they will help to flush out hoodlums and criminals.
Information, Culture and Tourism Commissioner, Mr. John Nwokocha, who made the position of government known, however, urged the citizens and residents of Abia State not to panic over the presence of large number of security personnel in various parts of the state.
Nwokocha maintained that the government was on top of the security situation in the state, insisting that there was no breakdown of law and order in the state.
According to him, Abia is safe and conducive for doing business. He pointed out that the amnesty proclaimed for repentant kidnappers and criminal elements was working well.
Noting that incidences of crimes in the state were unfortunate, the Commissioner expressed the hope that the situation will soon abate, saying the government had made special arrangement to tackle it and protect lives and properties.
