ENUGU—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu State, a group of traditional rulers in the South-East zone and the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, have thrown their weight behind the former National Secretary of PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, for the chairmanship of the party.

The Enugu State PDP Executive, which hailed the reported decision of the party’s Board of Trustees to nominate Nwodo for the chairmanship position, has already cleared various issues which Nwodo’s opponents had raked up to stop his emergence. 

Led by its Chairman, Chief Vita Abba, the party executive quickly moved in to state clearly that Nwodo did not leave the party on his own volition, but was chased out by the former Governor of the state who allegedly masterminded his removal as the national secretary.

Abba and his group drew the attention of Nwodo’s opposition to the fact that the former chief scribe of the party returned to the fold almost immediately after the exit of the previous administration in the state, but made it formal after Senator Jim Nwobodo Reconciliation Committee cleaned up  the debris.

They also drew attention to the Ekwueme Committee which allowed aggrieved members of the party to return unconditionally.

Insisting that Nwodo has no blemish, the party executive said it was unshakable in its support for the former secretary.
