PORT HAR-COURT— GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has accused the Federal Government  of leaving federal courts in the state in deplorable conditions, saying that explained why his administration was busy rebuilding them.

The governor spoke, yesterday, when National Association of Rivers State Students  from the Nigerian Law School paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt.

He said,  “After Lagos State, the next state with the  highest number of litigations is Rivers State.  Yet the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt  was dilapidated, the National Industrial Court was non-existent and the Court of Appeal has been in a sorry state.

“To ensure that our people have access to justice, we resolved to construct  a new Federal High Court  complex with six modern courtrooms and  state of the art facilities. That  complex will be commissioned  this May.

“We have proposed the demolition of the existing  old Federal High Court, so that we can build a new complex  with  more courtrooms.”

He said the state government had also commenced renovation work at the Court of Appeal building in Port Harcourt, adding that it was also building a National Industrial Court complex to serve the needs of labour related disputes.

He assured that his administration will continue to give special attention to development of education.

Publicity Secretary of the student body, Miss Akubueze Okocha  lauded the governor for projects he has  so far executed in the state.
