MAKURDI — Minister for Works, Senator Sanusi Mohammed Daggash, has threatened to terminate the contract for the rehabilitation of the Otukpa-Otukpo federal road project on ground of non performance by the contractor .
Daggash consequently handed a one-month ultimatum to the contractor to live up to his contractual terms or face the hammer of the Federal Government.
The Minister who handed the warning in Otukpo while undertaking an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing rehabilitation work on the federal road, registered his displeasure at the level of work done on the road by the contractor.
He observed that the contractor who had been mobilised for the job over a year ago had failed to do an appreciable work, thereby subjecting motorists to untold hardship on the road.
Daggash said: “You were mobilised over a year ago yet you have failed to take the project to an appreciable level. It is just unfortunate. You have one month to show commitment to the execution of this project or risk the termination of the contract.”
The Minister also implored the contractor to move more machinery to the site to boost the level of work on the road project.
According to him, the Federal Government would not hesitate to sanction any contractor handling its projects but found to be sabotaging the efforts of the present administration to bequest lasting legacies to the people.
Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Ademokoya Dada, Executive Director of Bullet Nigeria Ltd., the firm handling the project, intimated the Minister of the determination of his organisation to complete the project in record time.
