The contractor handling the N22 billion Asaba International Airport, Ogbueshi Uche Okpuno yesterday explained that the delay in completing the project was caused by a fundamental  modification of the original design of the project. The modification was at the insistence of  the aviation regulatory bodies.

Conducting the state deputy governor round the project site, Okpuno however expressed optimism that the project would be completed and be ready for use in December this year.
“If we had kept to the initial time frame and design of this airport, it would have been operational by now”, he said.

State deputy governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) later told reporters that “the original design did not include the concurs and now we have three passenger bridges as a result of the regulatory authorities coming in to introduce modern trend in the project”.
