Uduaghan threatens disloyal Commissioners

By Austin Ogwuda
Asaba—A Cabinet reshuffle is imminent in Delta State as the Governor, Dr. Emmanuel  Uduaghan disclosed that some members of his cabinet were no longer loyal to him, accusing them of engaging in subtle campaigns of calumny against his government.

He has, therefore, given two weeks to the “erring” Commissioners to purge themselves of such disloyalty or be booted out.

The Governor,  who dropped the hint during the swearing in of a Special Adviser on Ethnic Harmony, a newly created office, Chief Elizabeth Ogbon-Dey, at Government House, Asaba,  yesterday, said he had received reports that some members of his cabinet were disloyal and working contrary to the oath of allegiance they took.

Said he, “your loyalty to this administration  should be hundred percent. I am giving you two weeks to put in your papers (of resignation) if you feel you are no more loyal. For those of you (Commissioners) who are neither here nor there, we will take a decision on those we can work with. You cannot break or abandon the oath of office and oath of allegiance you took.”

Uduaghan charged the Special Adviser to use her wealth of experience as a former diplomat to justify the creation of the new office, saying, “you can deal with the issue of ethnic harmony in Delta State. We have to live as one and so far, God has helped us. There are still pockets of inter-ethnic problems here. We managed to contain them and with this new portfolio, we are determined to ensure ethnic harmony in Delta.”

Ogbon-Dey was a former Ambassador to the Republics of Cameroon and the Philippines.
