PRESIDENT, Institute of Information Management, Dr. Oyedokun Oyewole, IIM, has said that information management is instrumental in supporting and ensuring adequate implementation of the recently released Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) by the Federal Government.

Recall that the plan is expected to lead to the growth of the nation’s economy by 2.19 percent in 2017 and seven percent by the end of the planned period in 2020.

Oyewole said the role of information management in ERGP would be further discussed during the Institute’s 2017 annual lecture, induction and awards ceremony coming soon, added: “The conference is not only timely but also essential at this point in time for a sustainable and competitive economy and economic transformation with emphasis on improving both public and private sector efficiency, which can only be guaranteed by ensuring proper management and access to information.

“In addition, successful implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan will grossly depend and thrive only on timely, accurate and strategically relevant information. There would be need for private and public sectors to embrace information management and analytics to  improve productivity and enable innovation.”

He said that there is tremendous economic potential that can be unlocked by using the increasing volumes and diversity of real-time information to make better decisions in a wide variety of sectors, from healthcare to manufacturing to retail to public administration as the economic recovery and growth plan seek to give attention to macroeconomic stability; economic growth and diversification; competitiveness and business environment; governance and security.

“Promoting access to information in government and other institutions will play a vital role in maximizing the proceeds of the economic recovery and growth plan. It will enable government agencies and third parties to create innovative products and services using datasets and their outcomes, that are generated in the course of providing public services or conducting research.
