National Publicity Secretary of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Duncan Eghwere, has said that UPU and Urhobo indigenes will resist being short- changed at federal and state levels.
He spoke to a group of Urhobo students in Diaspora at Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State.
“Any attempt to push Urhobo to second fiddle in any political calculation, be it state or federal, will be resisted. No ethnic nationality in the Niger Delta has enough strength like Urhobo. It is just that we have blindly refused to understand our problems. But now that we know it, Urhobo must take its rightful place for the betterment for her children,” he said.
He said that visit of acting President Yemi Osibanjo, to Urhobo land was not properly handled. “The last VP Osinbajo’s visit to Delta State is the heights of insult on a people whose production quota surpasses most of those they dread. That Urhobo refused to destroy pipelines on their land is enough reason to respect the people.”
Speaking on behalf of the students, Mr. Oghenekaro Wisdom, said that Urhobo students will rally round to make sure UPU is respected by all tiers of government in the country.
