UGBORIKOKO—A former worker of McDermott Company Limited, Mr. Edward Oke, whose right arm was cut-off by a rolling crane, while laying a 48-inch pipeline with other workers from Bonny Tank Farm to the high sea, has cried out to the Delta State government, philanthropists and kind-hearted Nigerians for assistance.

Oke, who hails from Isoko community in Delta State, who has remained physically challenged since then, said: “I worked as a rigger between 1968 and 1973 with McDermott Company Limited, but in the course of my job with Derrick Barge 15 Department in 1973, while laying a 48- inch pipeline from Bonny Tank Farm to the high sea, the rolling crane seized my right arm and cut it off.”

He said that he was given an artificial hand, which he is managing until date and has been jobless since then. The victim, who commended McDermott Company, Nigeria and Overseas, for its support, however, said the artificial arm fitted into him was getting weak and he required financial support to stay afloat.

At Ugborikoko-Effurun, Delta State, where he is currently residing in a pitiable condition, Oke lamented that he could no longer feed himself and his family in his present condition and age.
