Lagos—The police, yesterday, charged a 32-year-old man, Obinna Egenti, who allegedly stole a car worth four million naira and also threatened to douse the owner of the car with acid, before an Igbosere magistrate’s court in Lagos.

The defendant was docked on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and threat to life, preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Inspector Steven Molo, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on December 8, 2016, at Ikotun, Lagos.

He said that the defendant and others at large stole an SUV with number plates FKJ 687 BD, valued at N4 million, property of one Apostle Grace Prosper.

Molo said: “Prosper gave out the said car to the defendant to use during the Yuletide, but the car was not returned. She asked the defendant for the car, but he threatened to pour acid on her, if she should do so again.”

According to Molo, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 56, 285 (10) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendant, however, denied all the charges against him.

Magistrate P. A. Adekumaiya admitted him to N1 million bail, with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government, be resident in the state and adjourned the case till March 23 for mention.
