Anambra 2017: 3 declare interest for IDP primary

Awka—THREE persons have declared their interest to contest the governorship election in Anambra State on the platform of the Independent Democrat Party, IDP.

The state chairman of the party, Mazi Omife Omife, who briefed newsmen in Awka yesterday on the party’s preparations for the election, which will take place later this year, however did not name the governorship aspirants, even as he assured that all the aspirants would be given a level –playing ground during the party’s primaries to ensure that the most acceptable candidate would emerge.

According to him, many serving and former Presidents’ General of town unions in Anambra State have pitched their tent with the party in readiness for the governorship election.

Omife, who was also a former President General in the state, said that the party  had concluded arrangements to conduct congresses at the ward, local government and state levels later this month to elect credible people to run the affairs of the party in the state.

The state congress, he explained, would be attended by all national officers of the party, as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and representatives of labour unions to ensure strict adherence to the party guidelines.

He also said that plans were already afoot for grass root mobilization and enlightenment of the people of Anambra State to embrace ID, which he described as the party for the masses.

“We have perfected plans to enlighten the Anambra State electorate on the manifesto of ID, which contains adequate programmes that will help liberate the people from years of socio-economic bondage and exploitation by the so-called big parties and unconscionable politicians,” Omife said.
