THREE police officers, a police inspector and two sergeants, have been arrested and are under investigation in Delta State for tear gassing three children, including a nine-month-old baby and their parents, Johnbull Cleopass and his wife.
The incident took place on December 3, in Warri, Delta State.
The policemen, who were among the mobile security operatives guarding an Ijaw-born politician (names withheld) were said to have gone wild when Cleopass, a former councillor in Bayelsa State, asked why the politician’s convoy hit his car.
Delta State Police spokesperson, DSP Andrew Dibiamaka, confirmed the arrest.
He said in a statement that the Commissioner of Police, Zanna Ibrahim, “is appalled by the action of the policemen and had ordered immediate investigation into the case and arrest of all the officers involved.
“The Command assures the public that it will not spare any of its officers and men found to have engaged in any reckless and unlawful act.
“Everybody connected with the incident, including the politician, is under investigation.”
