MAIDUGURI—The Swedish government has donated two cargoes household consignment worth over $56 million for resettlement and stabilisation of United Nations humanitarian workers residing in rented, unsafe houses and taking care of internally-displaced persons, IDPs, at various camps in Maiduguri and other host communities.

Receiving the consignment, yesterday, at Maiduguri International Airport, the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Inger Ultvedt, said the consignment, which he said was the first of its kind, was to provide a befitting accommodation and good working environment for humanitarian workers.

He said it will help those working outside Maiduguri, as most of the IDPs have started returning to their liberated communities that needed much interventions.

She said the first cargo that just arrived Maiduguri from Sweden, yesterday, comprised household utensils, beddings, chairs, health clinic facilities, kitchen and restaurants sanitation, power genera-ting sets, gadgets, among others, while the second cargo was expected to arrive Maiduguri via Abuja tomorrow.

She said: “Swedish government and its tax payers are very much concerned about the plights of IDPs, Nigerian and international humanitarian workers in Borno State.”
