Criminality: Security experts canvass better intelligence gathering

By Joseph Undu

Lagos—The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris and the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service, CGI, Muhammad Babandede have said for Nigeria to win the war against criminality, intelligence gathering among security agencies must be strengthened.

The IGP, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General Of Police, AIG, Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, Mr Kayode Aderanti, at this year’s Annual Lecture and Award ceremony of Crime Reporters Association Of Nigeria, CRAN, which took place in Lagos with the theme, “Solving Security challenges through intelligence” said; ‘’Our intelligence gathering would make us proactive, rather than being reactive. We need to work together with sister agencies. We must share intelligence.”

In his own remarks, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service, CGI, Muhammad Babandede, said that through intelligence, our porous border would be better manned and child’s trafficking and arm proliferation would be checked.

The Police must work together with other sister agencies and also collaborate with our neighbouring countries in the area of intelligence if the war against criminals would succeed. Security agencies should apply intelligence as the fight against crime has gone beyond carrying arms.”
