LG staff audit has captured 20,000 staff in Taraba – Bureau Perm Sec.

By John Mkom, Jalingo
The Taraba State local government staff verification exercise conducted across the sixteen local government areas of the state would bring positive effect and conducive management of the workers warfare if completed.

That was the assertion of  the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Yero, while speaking to Sunday Vanguard in  his office  yesterday.

Yero commended Governor Darius Ishaku for approving the conduct of the exercise describing it as the best thing that has happened to the state local government councils in recent history.

He revealed that in past years, the state Joint Account (JAC) found it difficult to pay salaries to the number of workers that were on the pay roll of the sixteen local government areas in the state.

He noted that many names on the local government pay roll were not in existence.

“The staff verification exercise has helped in many ways, not just authentication of genuine local government workers, but it also reveals the grade levels of the staff.

“We are almost done with the whole of the exercise”.

He disclosed that in the past,  unauthorised persons had padded the staff register.

The permanent secretary also stated that the verification exercise would create room for proper promotion of staff who were due to be promoted.

The verification exercise has captured over 20,000, while huge number of ghost workers have been expunged.
