Enugu—The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, yesterday, said the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, was affected by a thunderstorm, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday, destroying parts of the Airport Terminal Building, Pilot Lounge and General Aviation Terminal.

It also affected electric power lines to the airport, FAAN Staff Secondary and Primary School buildings and private residential buildings.

Confirming the incident, the Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, said FAAN had taken immediate remedial action, which allowed flight operations in and out of the airport and efforts are on to restore normalcy.

She also disclosed that there was no loss of life or injury and that flight operations were not affected.

According to Yakubu, “the management regrets the inconveniences caused by this incident to airport users and the general public.”
