House help, guard docked over alleged N1m theft

Lagos—A 32-year-old house help and a security guard, 23, were, yesterday, charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igbosere presided over by Magistrate A. O Awogboro over alleged theft of goods worth N1,350,000 from their employer.

The defendants, Mary Aminu and Collins Yilzem, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.

The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Joseph, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences on November 5 and that the incident took place between 7am and 7pm, at Plot 110, Road 65, Block 15, Henry Ojogho Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The case was adjourned till December 19, for mention.

According to him, they stole the following clothes valued at N18,000, bed sheet valued N25,000, three jeans and trousers, jewelries, wrist watch and the cash sum of 700 Us dollars equivalent to N315,000, adding that the total value of all the items that was stolen is N1,350,000, property of one Henry Ojogho.

He said the offences committed were punishable under sections 409 and 285 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011.

However the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and magistrate Awogboro granted them bail in the sum, of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum, who are tax compliant and have their addresses verified.
