ABUJA—The Caretaker Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has expressed confidence that the party would wax stronger after the ongoing leadership crisis rocking it, saying that it was better for the party to pass through the crisis now.

He spoke in an interview with journalists, shortly after he received an award at the Bridge Builders Award organised by the Love to the World Initiative, in conjunction with the National Orientation Agency in Abuja.

Makarfi, among other eminent Nigerians, was recognised for his role in fighting for peaceful coexistence, religious tolerance as well as protection of the vulnerable minorities among the people and dwellers in Kaduna State.

Markafi, who refused to comment on Ondo PDP crisis, following the emergence of Jimoh Ibrahim as the legally recognised party flag-bearer from the Ali Modu Sheriff led-faction in forthcoming governorship poll, said other parties would follow when PDP came out of its crisis.

He said: “You don’t discuss way of resolving your internal conflict in the public, some of them when you disclose, you are actually undermining what is going on. But all hands are on deck.

“We should thank God that we are even going through our own now, but the time we will be coming out of ours, other will be starting their own and that will benefit us.”

Commenting on the award, Makarfi maintained that nobody had monopoly of knowledge, noting, therefore, that it was imperative for the present government to run an open administration for people to participate and bring their wealth of experience to bear to improve governance.

“How country makes progress, you can know it all. There are people who may not be politicians that may be invited to join hands to take Nigeria out of the present situation we are in,” he said.

Also speaking, the President of Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, explained that most of the government policies failed to yield the desired results because people refused to take ownership.
