KADUNA—Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, yesterday, said that the killings of indigenous people of Southern Kaduna by herdsmen had been politicised, saying it is a problem his government inherited from the past government.

The remark was made by Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Bala Bantex, on behalf of the governor, when he visited some villages in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where 45 persons were killed last Sunday and houses burnt.

Meanwhile, the Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, yesterday, blamed the renewed killings in Southern Kaduna by herdsmen on the resolve of Kaduna State government to carve out large portions of lands for grazing.

The Church in Kaduna State observed that the N100 million donation announced by Governor el-Rufai for the reconstruction of destroyed churches and mosques in Southern Kaduna should instead be used to resettle victims of the violence and improve security in the area.

The position of the church was made known at a briefing in Kaduna addressed by the Chairman, ECWA 19 District Church Councils of Kaduna State, Rev Zachariah Gado.
