CALABAR—MRS Bibiana Elemi Edu, President of Catholic Women Organisation, CWO, in Cross River State, has been abducted by gunmen, while the organisation was holding a meeting with reverend sisters at the Old People’s Home, Marian Hill, Calabar.
Mrs. Elemi Edu, who is a Director with Cross River State Ministry of Heath was abducted on Friday, while waiting in her car for the reverend sisters to open the gate of the Home.
A source said: “She was waiting in her car and blaring the car horn for the revered sisters to open the gate, which took quite some time. That might have attracted the kidnappers, who were driving past to go over to where she was parked, dragged her out of her SUV into their golf car and sped off.”
A revered sister at the home, who said she came out at about the same time the woman was being taken away by the hoodlums, said boys around the Calabar Zoo, adjacent the Old People’s Home, attempted to stop the abduction.
She said: “The boys selling items around the Zoo tried to stop the kidnappers, but they brought out guns and threatened to shoot them, prompting the boys to run away.”
A family source told Vanguard that since her abduction on Friday morning, the hoodlums only called her husband, Mr. Elemi Edu, on Saturday, to demand for N100 million ransom and that they have not been heard from the kidnappers since.
Cross River State Police Commissioner, Ozi Jimoh, said: “A police team is already out to track the hoodlums; she will rescued, soon.”
