YENAGOA—Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a 72-year-old retired principal, identified as Sunday Fest, in Bomo clan, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The gunmen, numbering four, were said to have seized the septuagenarian from his country home at the riverside town of Fonibiri, yesterday at 3.26a.m.

According to sources, the invaders, who stormed the community in a speedboat, cut through the burglary at their victim’s home to gain access.

They were said to have shot sporadically into the air to scare away the residents of the community as they dragged the old man to their waiting speedboat and disappeared into the creeks.

A family source, who confirmed the abduction, expressed concern about the victim’s health.

He said the septuagenarian was diabetic and not feeling fine at the time he was kidnapped.

Contacted on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, said he was on leave.
